Magazine Cover line ideas

Cover lines are a very significant aspect in a magazine as they would inform and engage the target audience for a magazine and tell them what features are inside or to attract the audience with some catchy slogans. I have come up with ideas and come up with some cover lines for my magazine that will suit my genre. From my research answers that I have the majority of people will want to see more than 3 cover lines on a magazine, also it’s very conventional of having many strong cover lines of a magazine. Therefore I will have to follow these conventions to create a successful and professional magazine.

Magazine masthead ideas

The brainstorms I have created are possible ideas for my film magazine masthead name. I have to take into consideration the genre of horror when thinking of names. The name I thought would stand out for me would be ‘scream’, it sounds professional and also clearly portrays the genre of my film which is horror. I also a simple and short name which my target audience can remember.

Film Poster Flat Plan 4

This flat plan is based on existing poster I have seen. The differentiating factor in this flat plan as opposed to my other flat plan, is that the main image is the background of the poster and the films name is presented lower down the canvas rather than its conventional position near the top.

Film poster Flat Plan 3

In this flat plan i put the main elements such as the main image of the main character, title of the film and quotes and ratings from magazines/ newspapers also credits. A conventional flat plan like this enables audience to form instant recognition of the marketing campaign of my film. Also showing quotes and ratings of the film create realism in the poster and this allow show it a professional product.

Film Poster Flat Plan 2

This flat plan I made was the very conventional. It employs conventional elements such as the production company’s name, film name and production credits. If my final poster follows the layout of this flat plan it is more likely to be a successful media product rather than one that challenges conventions. I feel this because through a conventionally laid out horror film poster audience will be able to identify the genre of the film and they will be able to gather essential company’s name credits and release date.

Film Poster Flat Plan 1

I created flats plans to provide structure and guidance for my posters layout during the production stage. This flat plan is highly simple and conventional with only the main image character close up, tag line, name at the bottom half. If poster followed this layout it would be very effective and distinct with everything laid out professionally. However it may not be able to stand out from other horror film posters as the typical convention is the look eye catching therefore the audience finds it appealing. The audience will be able to relate to it to other posters and create ambiguity.

Viral Marketing Campaign

Viral marketing or viral advertising, uses pre-existing social networks and other technologies to provided an increases in brand awareness or to attract an audience.Viral marketing is a commonly used technique and is user generated therefore can be delivered by word of mouth, social networking, video sharing sites, tablets, phones and other means of communication. The affect of a viral campaign is to spread information like a 'virus' where people may not be aware they are being marketed to.Viral marketing is a successful way to spread information and attract audiences, this is because this is a cheap way as the company relies on the audience to spread the information for example: embedded trailer, small video clips, images emails, text messages. The end goal of marketers is to create viral messages that appeal to individuals with high social networking potential and that have a high probability of being presented and spread by these individuals and their communications with others in a short period of time. Viral marketing is aided by the convergence of media as an organisation would use of media platforms with high level of audience such as radio, TV, social network,newspapers/magazines. This all allows the promotion for the product to gain further awareness and increase a successful in popularity for the product.

Example of Viral Marketing Cloverfield http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_lxQzSitQA

Another example of effective viral marketing is for the film “Cloverfield”, before the film's release, Paramount Pictures carried out a viral marketing campaign to promote the film. The trailer involved mystery and enigma as it wasn’t clear what was happening and took the audience by surprise. The screen goes black without introducing a title; just a release date of “18/1/08”. In this particular video is a recording of a girl receiving a phone call from her boyfriend explaining that he has seen aliens. This can instantly create a buzz with people and this video will be send around to generate many views, therefore increase the release f the movie.

Trailer Analysis & Conclusion

I have analysed and compared five different movie trailers. By doing this I have a much stronger understanding on the conventions that are used in modern horror movies and how they have developed over the years. The movie trailers I looked at were: Quarantine, Paranormal Activity 2, Scream 4,The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Final Destination 5. To conclude, what I have learnt after analysing existing products is there are common conventions included in most horror trailers. Such as the pace increasing from slow to fast to very fast and a use of a variety of camera shot to create distortion and strangness.
